During the summer of 2002, this wonderful shell-like formation appeared. It was immediately nicknamed the Nautilus Shell. The nautilus is noted for its Golden Section spiral shape. Both the shell and this formation embody the proportions of growth found throughout all living organisms. The human ear is based upon the same spiral, including the delicate inner section known as the cochlea, which receives vibrations from the outside world. The human embryo also develops in the same shape. The wonderful thing about this spiral is that it unfolds from within itself, a curious property, which means that in a way it makes visible the invisible, creating something from seemingly nothing. Another fascinating property is that as it unfolds, its numbers reach towards a resolution of the ineffable phi, becoming ever closer but never reaching its goal.
